Over a year ago, Susan moved to Dubuque after she and her husband, Alan retired. Susan is pursuing a lifelong dream to draw and paint and is developing her artistic vision through a studio and fine arts classes at Studio Works.
Susan prefers to make art that results from close observation of real life, especially organic forms like vegetables, fruits and flowers (her classmates kid her about her "red pepper art"). Susan loves to observe flowers, not because she's sentimental, but because she finds flowers fierce and tender all at once.
She credits Studio Works art teacher, Lisa Towers, for helping her through her fears about undertaking a demanding activity later in life and hopes to encourage fellow late bloomers who want to face down their fears and pursue their own art dreams.
